Remake, Not Reboot

Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is Toei Animation's "ENHANCED" re-edit of the anime that started it all in 2015 — rebuilt frame by frame for the franchise's 40th anniversary.

Quick Answer
It's a remake/remaster of the original Dragon Ball Super's first three arcs — with new animation, re-recorded dialogue and a restructured story. Not a brand-new saga.

Announced January 25, 2026 · Premieres October 11, 2026 on Fuji TV · 19 episodes.

Why It Exists
40 + 70

Made for Dragon Ball's 40th anniversary and Toei Animation's 70th anniversary — a chance to fix the 2015 broadcast's rough edges.

The Short Version

What "Enhanced Edition" Actually Means

This is not an upscale. Toei describes a ground-up reconstruction:

ElementWhat Was Done
FootageComplete re-render of existing cuts, plus a batch of brand-new, redrawn animation
Animation fixesGeneral corrections to the original's notoriously inconsistent early-episode quality
DialogueEntirely re-recorded voice performances — Masako Nozawa and Koichi Yamadera return
AudioNew score additions and sound effects by returning composer Norihito Sumitomo
StoryReconstructed — the same beats, re-edited into a tighter narrative closer to the manga's pacing

Producer Akio Iyoku has said the project began several years before its announcement. The story credit belongs to the late Akira Toriyama, based on material he contributed while alive.

The Sagas

Three Arcs, Compressed

The 19-episode run rebuilds roughly the first third of the 2015 anime:

#SagaWhat Happens
1 God of Destruction Beerus (Battle of Gods) Beerus awakens, seeks the Super Saiyan God, and nearly erases Earth until Goku's new form talks him down
2 Resurrection 'F' Frieza returns from death with his Golden form for revenge on the Saiyans
3 Universe 6 / Champa Tournament Beerus's twin brother Champa hosts a tournament introducing Hit, Frost and the lead-in to the Tournament of Power

Trailers confirm at least one narrative liberty: Goku uses Super Saiyan God during the Frieza battle — something that never happened in the original film or anime.
